Plan Your Catskill Foothills Weekend

Golf cart path through autumn foliage at Island Green

Island Green Resort offers a complete two-day weekend experience in Greenville, New York, combining golf, dining, and lodge accommodations on a single 100-acre property. The Lodge has 12 guest rooms with kitchenettes; check-in is at 3:00 PM and checkout at 11:00 AM. The USGA-rated 18-hole golf course (par 71, 6,283 yards, slope rating 120) opens at 6:30 AM on weekends. Lil' Piece BBQ serves lunch and dinner Wednesday through Sunday, 11:00 AM to 9:00 PM, steps from the Lodge and two minutes from the 18th green. No car is required once guests have parked at the resort. The property is approximately 40 minutes south of the Capital District via Route 32, at 3822 County Rte 26, Greenville, NY 12083. Room reservations and tee times can be booked together by calling 518-966-5343 or emailing Info@theislandgreen.com. Summer weekends and October foliage weekends fill earliest.

A weekend at Island Green gives you 18 holes of championship golf, two dinners at Lil' Piece BBQ, and a Lodge room where the Catskill foothills fill your window.

Friday: Arrive and Settle In

Check into the Lodge at 3:00 PM. Twelve guest rooms, each with a kitchenette, A/C, and a mini-fridge. Unpack. The room is your base for the weekend.

Walk to Lil' Piece BBQ for dinner. The restaurant is steps from the Lodge. No car, no directions. Order the slow-smoked brisket with a craft cocktail. If this is your first meal here, start with the brisket. You can branch out on Saturday.

After dinner, walk the property if the light holds. In summer, sunset comes late enough for a stroll along the course edge. The grounds are open. There's no nightlife program or scheduled activity. The evening is yours.

If you're playing early Saturday, confirm your tee time before bed. Weekend mornings in summer fill, so you should have booked it when you reserved the room.

Saturday Morning: Golf

The course opens at 6:30 AM on weekends. Early tee times are the best option. The USGA-rated 18-hole course plays well in morning air: cooler, fewer groups ahead of you, and a Catskill Mountain backdrop at its sharpest in the first hours of daylight.

Walk from the Lodge to the pro shop and check in. If you need a cart, a rental set, or a yardage guide, the pro shop has all of it. First-time players should ask the staff which holes play longer than they look. The elevation changes add yardage that the scorecard doesn't communicate.

Plan 4 to 4.5 hours for a full 18. After your round, grab a drink at the clubhouse bar or head to Lil' Piece for lunch. The walk from the 18th green to the restaurant takes two minutes.

Saturday Afternoon: Greenville

You've played 18 and eaten lunch. The afternoon is open.

Stay on the property. Walk the art installations across the 100 acres. Sit on the Lodge porch. Read. The property was built for doing nothing with good scenery.

Or drive into Greenville. The town is small, with local shops, farm stands, and a few spots worth browsing. The drive takes minutes. If you're visiting in late summer or fall, the farms along the road are worth a stop.

Or explore the broader Catskill foothills area. Scenic drives through Greene County take you through covered bridges, past reservoirs, and along roads that wind through forest and farmland.

Saturday Evening: Dinner Again

Return to Lil' Piece BBQ. Try something different from Friday. Ribs, pulled pork, burgers, and sides that rotate with local produce. Pair it with a different cocktail or a local draft.

Friday and Saturday evenings during peak summer are the restaurant's busiest service. If you want a patio table, arrive early or call ahead. The patio at sunset is worth the ask.

After dinner, the evening is quiet. You're in the Catskill foothills. Stars are visible. The air smells like grass and woodsmoke if the smoker ran late.

Sunday: Second Round or Departure

Two options for Sunday morning.

Play a second round. You know the course now. You'll play it better with one round of local knowledge behind you. Morning tee times on Sunday are available, especially if you book ahead. Finish 18, eat lunch at the clubhouse, and depart in the early afternoon.

Or skip golf. Walk the property's art installations. Join a wellness session if one is running. Use the Lodge kitchenette to make coffee and sit on the porch for an hour without planning anything.

Checkout is at 11:00 AM. Many guests add a third night once they arrive. The property does that to people. If you're tempted, ask about availability at the front desk.

Booking Your Weekend

Call 518-966-5343 or email Info@theislandgreen.com to reserve a Lodge room and tee times. Booking both together ensures you get the Saturday morning slot you want.

Summer weekends fill first. Fall weekends, especially October for foliage, are the second most requested. Spring and early summer offer the most availability at the best rates.

For groups of four or more, the events team coordinates tee times, dining, and room blocks. Contact Kevin@theislandgreen.com for group bookings.

What to Pack

Golf clubs (or rent from the pro shop). Layers for morning tee times in spring and fall, when temperatures start 15 to 20 degrees below the afternoon high. Comfortable shoes for walking the property beyond the course. A camera, because the mountain views from the back nine and the fall foliage along the fairways are worth documenting.

Leave the formal clothes at home. The Lodge, the restaurant, and the course are all casual. Pack for comfort, not for a dress code.

If you're driving from a city, the transition from highway to county road to resort happens in stages. By the time you turn onto County Route 26, you'll feel the shift.
