About Island Green
100 Years in the Catskill Foothills
Island Green Resort & Golf Club was established in 1920 by the Birmann Family in Greenville, New York — Greene County, in the foothills of the Catskill Mountains, approximately 40 minutes south of Albany. The family has owned and operated the property continuously for over 100 years.
The course was originally known as Rainbow Golf Club. The Birmann Family rebranded to Island Green when the signature par-3 hole — a green completely surrounded by water on all sides — became the defining feature of the property and one of the only island greens in the Catskills region.
Today the 100-acre property includes the USGA-rated 18-hole golf course, the on-site Lil' Piece BBQ restaurant, a 12-room lodge, and event facilities accommodating 20 to 150 guests. The resort operates April through mid-December.

Kevin Smith
General Manager, Island Green Resort
Kevin Smith manages day-to-day operations across the golf course, Lil' Piece BBQ, the Lodge, and event coordination at Island Green Resort. He oversees the grounds crew, pro shop staff, and the resort's seasonal programming.
Kevin is the author of the Island Green blog — where he covers course conditions, resort news, dining at Lil' Piece BBQ, and golf guides for players visiting the Catskills region.
